What Glass Should You Choose for Your Shower Screen?

Blog

A glass shower adds an attractive, sleek look to a bathroom. But what type of shower screen should you choose? Here are several suggestions and ideas.

Openness

If you want your bathroom to appear unrestricted, opt for transparent shower glass. These screens don't conceal the shower area, so they evoke openness. To magnify this effect, choose low-iron, transparent glass. This glazing doesn't feature the green tinge common in standard glass.

Another method for creating roominess in a bathroom is to choose a frameless shower design, which often looks almost invisible. On the other hand, the metal rim of framed showers defines and separates the shower, thereby visually cutting the room into zones so it appears smaller.

Privacy

Because transparent screens don't obscure the shower, they don't create a private space for showering. You may enjoy an open feeling, but if not, you can generate privacy with other glass options. For example, opt for frosted screens that are acid-etched to a satin finish.

This glass is translucent rather than opaque, so softly filtered light will flow through the screens, and the bathroom will retain a sense of airiness. Frosted designs let you choose the translucency level, so you can make the frosting bolder or more subtle.

You can also choose glass screens with frosting cut into sections. A wide horizontal band of frosting along the middle of the shower screens will let more light flow through the clear glass at the top and bottom.

Decoration

Rather than thinking about openness or privacy, you might focus on the decorative aspect of glass screens. You could install a frosted screen with a design etched onto it. These patterns can be geometric, forming a sequence of lines and circles. Or else, you can choose a botanical theme full of winding lines. Another way to embellish shower glass is to imbue it with colours like green, blue, grey and bronze.

If you want a statement shower, you might prefer patterned glass. These screens are moulded with a design when the glass is in a molten state, leaving the screens with indents, grooves and textures. A popular style is falling rain, which is in keeping with the aquatic nature of the bathroom.

You can also integrate colours with patterned glass for a unique effect. Decorative glass options such as these will also close off the shower and make it private, but they do this to different degrees depending on the design.
